When you think about it, actively being happy can seem like a chore. I’m sure we’ve all found ourselves curling up on the couch at the end of a long day and finding ourselves having a whinge on Facebook or Twitter about our lousy day. And, of course waiting for the sympathy to roll in.
But could our life change when focussing on the little things that have made us happy over the small negative ones?
That’s the theme of the newest social media challenge that has taken the net by storm. The #100HappyDays Challenge is an experiment designed to challenge people to be happy for 100 days. Seems easy, right? Perhaps not. According to the 100 Happy Days website, a vast majority of people don’t even have the time to be happy every day. As social media is at the forefront of our lives, extremely busy schedules have become something to boast about on every platform available, and this doesn’t always have the positive outcome that we think it would.
It seems that in the world of social media, happiness is now in demand.
According to the website, 71% of people attempted to complete the challenge, but failed quoting lack of time as the main reason. These people just didn’t have time to be happy.
So, with a new year beginning I thought that I should try something completely different. I have begun my attempt at the #100HappyDays Challenge, and am super excited to see how my life is affected when I actively look for the things that are making me happy in my day to day life. I often find myself focussing on the positives, however am often overcome with that feeling of dread, stress, and anxiety that usually envelopes a busy student.
What will life have in store for me when I actively take the time to stop and smell the roses? Well, people that have successfully completed the challenge have claimed that they have been in a better mood, started to receive more compliments from people, have become more optimistic, and some have even fallen in love during the challenge.
I’m just hoping for a better outlook on my life.
